Right Now (July 8, 2022)

I am okay right now. I want to write this post when I'm feeling okay. In the past few months, my emotions are like waves. Earlier I felt horrible. I was afraid, if there's any word more intense that afraid, consider that. I was anxious about the future. My mother, who's getting weaker and I am hoping that she will be still with us for as long as she wants. I pray every night that when that day she'll be leaving us, it would be peaceful and free from pain.

Most of the time I'm okay. I am at peace with my situation and I believe that where I am right now is where I'm supposed to be in my life. I put  all my faith that things are going to be okay. It's all gonna be okay. That during difficult times I have to keep myself calm, but at the same time acknowledge my emotions. If I'm sad, I let myself be sad. When I'm miserable, I acknowledge that and believe that it will pass.

It's been more than two months since I left my work. I don't really miss the job. I loved my job, it's the system and micromanagement that I despised the most. Sooner or later, I need to get a new one. I have been financially independent for a very long time. I don't want to depend on my husband and my sisters with my needs. I have to start getting back and picking up where I left with my bookkeeping course, and get a client soon to earn some money. I hope and pray that freelancing is for me.

Yesterday I turned 42. My sisters prepared some food for all of us. I'm not really a celebrating kind of person. I want to celebrate other people's birthday, but not really  mine. I'm just glad to be alive and experience all I can experience in my life. I'm just happy to be surrounded with my family, I'm contented being at home with my husband even without doing anything. This is vacation enough for me. I'm happy when my family is happy. I realized that I don't really need a lot in life. When I asked myself "what do I really want for my birthday this year", looking deep within myself I have already have everything I need. I am contented.

I am okay that if anytime time now, my mother is "leaving". I can be okay with losing her than see her suffer and in pain. I have spent 42 years with her. When she's gone, it like a part of me will taken away, but that's life. I spend as much time with her while she's still her because I know I will miss her forever. I still can't help but cry every time I think about the days when she's no longer here.

What Doesn't Kill Me Makes Me Stronger

For the past couple of years, I have been dreaming of that day where I would submit my resignation letter. I have been dreaming of quitting this job. When mother got sick, I said I would do it this year. It was all planned, effective until December of 2022. But it happened earlier than planned. Before March 2022 ended, I submitted that letter.

There were signs I had been ignoring for the past many years, but I have been afraid. The salary, some people, the politics, me being not appreciated, new staffs being considered over me, I was left behind,  my supervisor shutting me out, and then my mother. My mother. This job was not worth it anymore. While I was touched by my manager's gestures and appreciation, and our HR manager who gave me support and the same appreciation as any leader would, my supervisor, of all people, who clearly had no plans of helping me grow and learn, did not even talk me out to a better way. I was not ready, but when will I ever be? That day that I thought I will be ready will never happen. I decided, I did it. I was afraid for the future that offered no certainty. I had no savings, no health insurance whatsoever, no anything a regular job offered. But my mother needed me, now more than ever. I had wished she would live until she's 80. I had bargained with God even until 75.

May 31, we were back at the hospital again. Spent ten days for another round of blood transfusion. Five more packs, at the nearby public hospital, we were all tired.

Before June ended, the week right after my mother celebrated her 72nd birthday on the 24th, we went to the hospital once again. This time in another public hospital in Pasig. It was one of the most horrible day of my life. The emergency room was packed with desperate and sick people. It was Monday, the 27th. When we came in the morning we were right there along the hallways, my mother sat in the wheelchair until ten in the evening. Before she was given a bed, the ER head approached me and told me that a relative sought for his help. He explained that they are doing all their best to attend to all the patients. I understood. There were many patient needed immediate care, few hospital staff. There were not enough spaces for extra beds, and people come and go like it was a flea market and everybody needed help. In that short span of time, three people arrived and were already dead. I still cannot express how I would describe that day.

The following day, on the 28th, around 4 in the afternoon, a young surgeon came in and introduced herself. We were still at the ER after more than 24 hours and some tests done to my mother. The doctor mentioned the tests that still needed to be done, and an operation won't be possible because of her weight, and when my mother heard the words biopsy, chemotherapy, tubes and all, she was scared. I said to the doctor that since she mentioned chemo, is it cancer then. She did not say yes but she instead said that a biopsy still needs to be done to determine which specific cancer it is and continued blabbing words that I did not understood anymore. I was overwhelmed but what I heard, and so was my mother. It is esophageal cancer, according to the medical certificate issued.

A couple of minutes after the doctor left, my mother said "Let's go home, I don't want to do this anymore". I did not say anything. I just held her arm and let myself a quiet cry while mother recalled the days when she was taking care of my father who died 8 years ago from lymphoma.

I told this to my family through in our group chat, and I also called my eldest sister. I told them to come over and talk to my mother.

The following day, on our third day at the ER, I signed a waiver about my mother's decision. She already made up her mind. The doctor's were seemed to be bitter about this, or is it just me. I don't know. The other doctor seemed to be in an angry mood when we told them that the patient wanted to go home. He even told us that when we go out of the hospital my mother will die in days. Why I did not sense any compassion from these doctors.  We stayed one more day after my mother decided, but her decision was final, after talking to my siblings. I asked them all to come along with a cousin and another relative who was with us the whole time at the ER.

I'm unemployed, my mother have cancer. I wish I am brave enough.

To my future self who is reading this blog, this moment I am okay. This few seconds that I'm typing these letters, my eyes are welling up tears because I have been trying so hard to be strong and okay because I have no other choice, I am okay. Mother is sleeping, from time to time I check her when she's asleep and making sure she's still breathing. Most of the time I wish for a miracle, and at the same time I appreciate every second that she's still here. In three days, you'll be 42. I don't know how old you will be by the time you go back to this blog.

I want coffee.

Life Update or is it a bad dream?

I don't know how to start. I have so many things to write here. I don't have or I don't really want to share this to anyone.

This time is probably the most difficult time of my life so far.

It started late last year, November 2021 when my sister noticed that my mother was pale. Before this she was feeling this persisting headache since pandemic began. We took her to the doctor and it was found that her hemoglobin was low and was advised to have a blood transfusion immediately. She needed three packs of blood. Covid is still here, we took her to the nearest private hospital. At the reception area, I was interviewed by the hospital staff. She asked my questions about the patient's income, the children's income and properties. She should have directly asked me if we can afford to pay the hospital services, and the manner she asked me was very disrespectful. I looked like I could not afford to pay because I was doing laundry the time my sister called me to take our mother to the ER. Hospital fees have risen more than double in the time of covid. I swear I hated hospitals even more and this was just the beginning.

Three days at the hospital, my mother was sent home with instructions for a follow up check-up and a procedure called endoscopy. There was a mass found in her stomach. I told my  mother I cannot afford to take her to a private hospital anymore, so we went to the nearest public hospital in our place two weeks after she was sent home. It was December, we were worried because she was still pale and looking sick. We booked a schedule to a Gastroenterologist in the first week of December. The doctor was kind. We were instructed to do the endoscopy but he recommended to do it in a hospital in Manila so his students can take care of us there but at the same time we were also instructed to go to a cardiologist to get clearance before the procedure. My sisters took her to a cardiologist at the same public hospital but the doctor did not clear her. We were confused with these instructions and decided to just book a schedule an appointment again to the Gastro since the cardiologist told my sisters that those are not urgent and can wait. My family did not really enjoy Christmas that time, they did not tell but I know because we were worried about my mother's health.

January 2022 came, I stayed at my mother's home because my brother and his family spent the night with his inlaws (they live with my mother but my two sisters and their families and me and my husband live within the same neighborhood). I could not sleep because she did not look okay, I checked her temperature and it was almost forty. It was three in the morning, I called my sister who lives next door and we took our mother to the ER at the break of dawn. Her hemoglobin was low, the same when she first had blood transfusion at that effing private hospital. She had covid at the same time. Public hospitals were a nightmare at this time of omicron spreading like wildfire. She needed five packs of blood. We asked for help from friends, relatives, and neighbors if they could donate blood because we need to replace the 5 packs my mother used. A lot of people were scared to go to the hospital because of omicron so we had to offer money to successful blood donors.

My mother spent 10 days at the hospital. My brother was with her all the time because only one guardian was allowed and they were not allowed to go out. We bring them everything they needed. Thankfully the hospital was just a walking distance from home and my brother did not get covid. I also had to take a leave from work that time because I was exposed when I checked my mother while she was still at the ER. I touched her oxygen mask and I might had covid so I had to warn my co workers and went home the time the covid test result came out.

Some people were understanding, while some people are just plain stupid and insensitive. We tried to keep this a secret and did not tell anyone in the neighborhood but still we were responsible to avoid people as much as possible. This covid is really a nightmare to a lot of people.

Mother was sent home and advised to have quarantine for ten days. She was given medications and no further instructions but to just isolate and finish the medicines. I asked my husband's sister in law if she could take care of my mother during weekdays. She agreed and we paid her three hundred pesos a day, food and transportation fare not are on us.

Two weeks later, my sister took her to a different clinic for a check up and consultation. She was given some medicines through injections that made her feeling awful that lasts for hours up to a day.

I felt so bad for my mother. I felt so sad and worried that why she had to go through this. If I could only share some of the pain so she does not have to have it all on her own.

Something Just To Have A Post To End The Year

I have not been updating this blog for quite a long while. Pandemic, and all, busy, lazy, not very much motivated to post anything. It's been a year since we moved to Binangonan. The travel from home to work and back leave me feeling physically exhausted almost all the time. I turned 41 this year, so my body was not as strong as I wanted it to be. But this time i'ts more what I need, strength, both physical and mental. But how? (I'm grateful that we are not paying rents anymore, such a nice wonderful feeling)

I have been watching a lot of motivational and spiritual videos. I have seen quite a few interesting spiritual teachers. I started practicing what they teach and I think it's good. If it's helping me and my anxious thoughts, I think so. I need to train my  mind to focus and control my thoughts.

Friends. This year, I felt that I did not have any. This one friend did not even bother to ask how I have been doing when I apologized that I did not prepare them gifts because all my money was used for my mother's hospital bills. Was I just being over sensitive? Friend, tell me.

This year, a lot of people I know, have lost a loved one. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for them. It always remind me to be grateful I still have my loved ones.

I pray and wish that this coming year will be the start of the better years that was not in 2020 and 2021. And at the same time, I have to trust that whatever happened is all part of the great divine that is the Universe fulfilling what is just suppose to happen. I'm out of right words here. My thoughts are scrawled.

This year was not the best but I'm grateful. For life.

November One

Two months na lang ang natitira sa 2021. Yes, tagalog blog muna this time para sobrang makatotohanan. Ang totoo mas mahirap maging happy simula pa nung March 2020. Totoo naman na sabi nila na happiness is a choice, pero madalas mahirap ma achieve maging happy sa mga nangyayari sa buhay natin. Hindi lang naman ako ang ganito. Marami tayo diba?

Andaming nawala. (A minute of silence para sa kanilang lahat) Dahil dito mas lalo tuloy nadagdagan ang takot ng maraming tao, including me, tao.

Nakalimutan ko na ata mag blog. Kagabi lang hindi ako nakatulog ng maayos dahil sa inis, at sa brown out. Kailangan kong bumawi ng tulog. Bukas papasok na naman sa trabaho. Thank you Lord may trabaho kami. Sana this year yung mga nawalan ng trabaho magka work na ulit.

okie, bye.

August 27, 2021 Friday 4:30 PM

It’s been a while since my last blog. I have not blogged in a long while. It felt like years. I remember last year around the same month, I was browsing a lot of YouTube videos about how I can earn from blogging and how much could I earn. I was thinking of a side hustle. Something I could do online and during my free time. I could not think of anything else but blog since this is something I both enjoy and I feel know how to do. But when I found out about the cost of setting of my own website my enthusiasm went down. That time, I did not think I could spend for a web hosting and domain while paying rent, no internet access at home and my lowly laptop that I bough in 2017 for my grad school.

So I temporarily dropped down the idea of having my own website but continued my search on finding a side hustle. I found online freelance bookkeeping and the group of people who were, like me, dreaming of working at the comforts of our own home and earning the same amount with the work I have been doing for more than ten years now. And my brain was overwhelmed with a lot of “how to” videos that I have been watching from one to another. I could not count how much hours I spent on this. But the desire to work freelancing online has been the same.

About the same time last year, we were still renting an apartment in Masinag. Now I am happy to be living rent free with my family as my neighbors and most people around I have known since I was a child. The only struggle is the daily commute to and from work.
